Hukuya Sushi Bar: Eastwood (24 July 2012)

Located on a quiet corner opposite Eastwood station, Hukuya Sushi Bar seems to always be filled with customers whenever we’ve walked past it. We decided to finally try it today, and was greeted warmly by the Korean staff. The tables were all filled, so we were escorted to the sushi counter, where we could watch the two sushi chefs preparing dishes whilst eating their creations.

Sushi set (part of lunch set)
Super fresh and tasty, each sushi was topped with thick and long slices of fresh fish (salmon, kingfish, salmon belly) and served with a side of crunchy soft shell crab sushi and the small rolls of cucumber and pickle sushi. Just the right amount, leaving enough stomach for the side udon/soba that comes with the lunch set ($16). The sushi was so fresh that I didn’t need to use the wasabi!
Hot udon
H got the hot udon as part of her lunch set, which came out piping hot with chewy and bouncy fat strands of udon.
Cold soba
I chose the cold soba side, which was a very generous serving portion considering that it came with a platter of sushi already. The soba was chilled well, without being dried out, and was matched perfectly with the chilled flavoursome dipping sauce.
