I had spent a few good
hours days last year hunting down the heavenly melt-in-your-mouth pork buns from the food truck Tsuru, power walking anywhere between the city to Pyrmont. So when our lovely friend A organised a girls night out at the Tsuru pop-up dining event at Newtown, K and I both jumped at the chance to go. Advertised as “unlimited food” with live entertainment, welcome cocktails at a “secret” location, it definitely had us all intrigued and excited for the Friday to come. The “secret” location was revealed to us via email the day before the event, and it turned out to be in a lovely terrace in Newtown that had the most amazing courtyard for entertaining outdoors.
We arrived just before 7pm, and were promptly stamped and handed a welcome cocktail (with a thoughtful option between alcoholic and non-alcoholics for those doing Dry July) .The whole night was well organised by Tsuru, with different stations set up offering the various courses (see the menu below). It felt as if we were at someone’s well organised house-warming party, with amazing food and well-made cocktails. Below are some of the photos I managed to take of the various courses and of my girls (and V when he came to pick up A towards the end of the night) The food was all lovely and easy to eat whilst standing around. The highlights would still have to be the tender pork buns (available on their normal food truck menu) and the juicy lamb chops. Overall an amazing night with good food and friends, and a wonderful opportunity to be able to sample a greater variety of dishes from the amazing Tsuru team.
