Batch Burgers & Espresso: Kirribilli (20 October 2013)

Last Sunday night we visited Batch Burgers & Espresso, the new kid in town bringing in plenty of energy and fun to the strip of restaurants/cafes at Kirribilli. I loved the fun 50′s American diner vibe, with bright splashes of red and yellow throughout the diner. The staff are also dressed in theme, and the bar side stools are as you would imagine they existed back in the hey-days. I loved the music selection and the service was all pretty upbeat despite it getting late for a Sunday night.

After a good few minutes musing over the menu, we decided on getting the classic cheese burger and to try the New Yorker (I’m a sucker for any burger with eggs). The New Yorker is an impressive looking burger, stacked high with bacon, cheese, tomato, beetroot, a fried egg, pineapple, lettuce and topped with mayo and BBQ sauce. It sounds amazing on paper, and all the ingredients worked well together. However as much as I adore greasy food, the patty mixed in with the brioche buns overstepped my usual threshold for greasiness. Whilst burgers are meant to be juicy and greasy, the oil from the New Yorker burger that continuously ran down my hands as I tried to the burger was slightly off putting. That being said, the burger was nonetheless very tasty and the crunchy coleslaw was a nice side dish to offset some of the greasiness, albeit being on the saucy side.

The Cheese Burger was delicious and tasty, and did not come across as overly greasy as the New Yorker. It consisted of their beef patty chargrilled and topped with a good portion of melted American cheese, cut up pickles, a sprinkling of onion pieces and topped with mustard & ketchup. It comes in a good size (manageable to eat whilst still being thoroughly satisfied) and the side fries are well seasoned and crunchy.

Whilst they are better burgers in Sydney, I love the fun American diner set out the Batch Burger has as well as their friendly and prompt service. As a bonus, they also have good opening hours (opening 7 days from 7am-10pm) and the street parking is relatively easy.
